Our Partnership with the House of Bread

House of Bread Anniversary
10th Anniversary Celebration of the Partnership - Dec. 2004

St. Patrick – St. Anthony Church works in partnership with The House of Bread to deliver nutrition, housing, education and employment services to the poor.

St. Patrick – St. Anthony Church and the Franciscan Center for Urban Ministry are committed to the Living Word of the Gospel in everyday life.   The mission statements for both the Church and Center commit “to welcome and extend hospitality to all people, especially the alienated and the poor”.  Consistent with this commitment , St. Patrick – St. Anthony Church and the Franciscan Community Center established a collaborative mission of service on December 18, 1994, with the House of Bread a partnership focusing on ministry to the economically disadvantaged in the Hartford area.

The mission Statement of the House of Bread call for living out the Gospel message “by ministry to the hungry, the homeless and the poor with simplicity, dignity and respect.  In our Partnership, St. Patrick – St. Anthony Church and the Franciscan Community Center for Urban Affairs continues to work directly with the House of Bread and its Board of Directors in the delivery of services to the poor in the areas of nutrition, housing, education and employment.  Our partnership continues to be a primary focus of collaborative social service ministry for those in need.

The House of Bread offers a wide variety of services and support system for the people of Hartford and beyond.  Please refer to their website www.HOBread.org for a description of all programs and how you can become involved.  St. Patrick-St. Anthony and the Franciscan Center enthusiastically   support the programs and services of the House of Bread.

Helping Our Mothers through Education (H.O.M.E.) Program

H.O.M.E Away from Home: Each summer the House of Bread offers a camping experience for 12 children ages 8-12 .  Groups travel to Mount Holly, Vermont each Monday during the summer and return to Hartford on Friday. St. Patrick – St. Anthony Church and the Franciscan Center for Urban Ministry offer their support through volunteers to assist at camp and donations of food and supplies needed each week.

Your time, talents and generous donations greatly assist us in our commitment to support these services.  We are deeply  grateful for the time and generosity of so many people throughout  the years and continuing today.
