Inquiry for the Immersion Trip to Haiti
for March 3 - 10, 2010

St. Patrick - St. Anthony Parish on December 5, 2004 entered into a covenant relationship with our sister parish, St. Genevieve Parish in Zoranje, Haiti.  This twinning relationship is administered through Haitian Ministries for the Diocese of Norwich, Inc.  Haitian Ministries have been working in Haiti with various organization and parishes for over twenty-five years and come to us with a wealth of experience and knowledge.

During the Immersion-Retreat Visit you spend 7 to 10 days traveling in Haiti, visiting orphanages, clinics and getting to know the people of Haiti.  Whenever possible, you will get a glimpse into the lives of the Haitian people through their environment, their culture, their faith and their way of life. You will visit organizations doing tremendous work in Haiti, you will play with the children at the orphanages and hospitals, and you will have a chance to listen to invited speakers talk to you on different topics including: justice and peace, politics, religion, language, and culture in Haiti. Each day is filled with new experiences and with new friends who you will remember long after you have returned home. During this 7 to 10 day immersion program you will spend two to three days at our sister parish, St. Genevieve Church in Zoranje, Haiti.

Estimated Cost of the Trip $1,300.00 to $1,500.00

Travel to Haiti require  each traveler to have certain immunizations, shots and precaution,  please ask your doctor what you might need.

St. Genevieve Scholarship

In August 2007, the Jones estate made a donation in memory of Mr. & Mrs. J. Donald (Anne) Jones to St. Patrick - St. Anthony to establish a scholarship for those traveling to St. Genevieve in Zoranje, Haiti.

Each year the sister parish committee will offer a scholarship to a parishioner for our sister parish immersion trip to Haiti. This scholarship is given as a way to encourage and financial help parishioners visit our sister parish and deepen our relationship with St. Genevieve.

The amount would include the cost of airfare, travel insurance, room and board and transportation. The recipient would be responsible for all medical cost associated with the trip, food not included in the room and board and/or spending money.

The recipient of the scholarship should be a first time traveler to Haiti and meet ALL of the following qualifications:

                1. Be an active member of St. Patrick - St. Anthony Church.
                2. Be involved in at least one ministry in the parish or Urban Center.
                3. Must be over the age of 18 years.
                4. Must be physically, emotionally and spiritually able to travel to Haiti.

The recipient of the scholarship will be awarded by the sister parish committee.

Each person seeking the scholarship should write a brief statement of the following questions:

                1. Why do you want to go on this immersion trip?
                2. What do you hope to get out of this immersion trip to Haiti?
                3. How will this benefit the ministry you are currently a member of?
