Our Franciscan Life
With nearly 350 men serving the people of God in a wide variety of settings — colleges, parishes, urban ministry centers, and diverse social ministries along the East Coast of the United States of America as well as in overseas missions — the Franciscan Friars of Holy Name Province are the largest of the seven provinces in the United States belonging to the Order of Friars Minor. Like Franciscans worldwide, they strive to continue the Order's 800-year-old mission, bringing the Gospel into the everyday experience of men and women through a life in fraternity and compassionate service to all.
Secular Franciscan Order
The St. Joseph Fraternity of the Secular Franciscan Order meets at St. Patrick-St. Anthony Church. The Secular Franciscans, formerly known as Third Order Franciscans, follow the Rule of Life developed by St. Francis of Assisi for men and women living in the world: "The rule and life of the Secular Franciscans is this: to observe the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ by following the example of St. Francis of Assisi who made Christ the inspiration and the center of his life with God and people" (Rule of the Secular Franciscan Order, chap. 2).
